- In 1999, the “Penghu reclamation hall” received financial subsidy from the former Council for Cultural Affairs of the Executive Yuan (now the Ministry of Culture) to be renovated into a museum. Prof. Xu Xueji was appointed as the project director and was also tasked with studies relating to the “Collection and Research Project of the Local Penghu County Historical Documents.” The repair of the primary building was completed in October of 2002; the garden in June of 2003; and the opening ceremony was held on July 25th of the same year.
The Penghu reclamation hall has 8 primary units of exhibition to show off the efforts of the brave pioneers: “pioneering Penghu,” “immigration to Penghu,” “the Penghu channel,” “traditional villages of Penghu,” “batteries of Penghu,” “developments of Penghu,” “records of Penghu,” and “the officer's residence.”
